Fonterra Darfield

Spread over a three year construction period Fire Solutions were the lead Fire System Contractor on Fonterra’s new Darfield milk processing plant, 45 minutes inland from Christchurch. During the construction period Fire Systems were provided to the following buildings:

Boiler House 1 and 2 and Control Room Fire Sprinkler

Administration Block

Denitrification and Chlorine Buildings

Waste Water treatment Plant

Drier One and associated Dry Store

Drier Two and associated Dry Store (New Zealand’s largest Drier)

While the scope of services to each building varied, the design and build contracts consisted of Fire Sprinklers both conventional and pre-action, Addressable Fire Alarms with supplementary smoke detection and Very Early Warning Smoke Detection (Vesda), Fire Hose Reels and Fire Extinguishers. On completion all of the systems being certified by qualified independent third party inspectorates.

In addition to the above we were also contracted directly to Babbage/Fonterra for the

  • Detailed design, and supply of two independent 11000 litre per minute diesel driven fire pumps, complete with all associated piping, valving and controller Site wide interfacing of all of the Fire Alarms systems on the site to a central control room and provision of site side sector panels.
  • Provision of detailed hydraulic calculations of the site fire ring main to ascertain expected flows and pressures for the various new sprinkler system on the site.

All of the above being carried out by our in-house design, project management, construction/installation and commissioning teams.
